Tired of Doing It All? Welcome, You’re in the Right Spot.

In all honesty, this space didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. I started The Learner Agency Project because I know firsthand how hard it is to raise Black and Brown kids in a world that often doesn’t see their brilliance.

This is a space for mamas, parents, families, and anyone else raising a child. The folks who are in the trenches every day trying to guide, protect, and pour into their kids. We’re not here to gossip about other parents or shame anybody. And we’re definitely not here to bash teachers. I’m pro-teacher, always. I used to be one, and I know teachers didn’t build this broken system—they’re doing their best to survive inside of it.

This space is about us. About what’s going on with our kids right now. About the little things nobody hands you a manual for. About building each other up so we can build our kids up too.

The Many Parenting Lanes

Here’s the truth: parenting isn’t one-size-fits-all. And I’ve sat in all the seats.

  • Maybe you’re the mama riddled with guilt because you work long hours. By the time you get home, you’re too drained to walk your child through homework or behavior. Fixing the problem yourself feels easier than teaching the lesson.
  • Or maybe you’re the parent who sees your child’s brilliance and knows they’re not being pushed. At school, they’re bored. At home, they’re restless. You’re like, “This child has so much more in them—what do I do?”
  • Maybe your kid is the angel at home but turns into a whole different person at school. The teacher’s calling and you’re like, “Who? Not my child.”
  • Or you might be the parent who’s just honest enough to say, “I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m trying.”

Listen, I’ve been every single one of those parents. My son is 18 now and in college, but between kindergarten and fifth grade? Whew, he CUT UP! Some days I thought, “He’s too smart, he’s just bored.” Other days I was a tired teacher-mama who didn’t have the energy to fight about homework. I’ve lived all the versions of this.

Why This Space Exists

As a former teacher and now a teacher coach, I’ve seen the same thing over and over: too many kids waiting to be told every next step, shutting down when things get hard, and struggling to speak up for what they need.

This isn’t just an academic issue — it’s an agency issue.

My heart work (and yes, my dissertation work) is helping kids—especially in grades 2–5—build the skills to:
✅ Advocate for themselves
✅ Push through challenges without giving up
✅ Take ownership of their learning

This is especially critical for Black and Brown students, who deserve to move through classrooms and life with confidence, independence, and voice.

Here, I’ll share research-based, practical strategies parents and caregivers can use at home to help their kids develop these lifelong skills.

Because when we come together, our kids win.

What’s Next?

So welcome. You belong here. Whether you’re confident, confused, or just plain tired—this space is for you.

  • Subscribe to the weekly newsletter where we swap stories, share strategies, and remind each other we’re not alone.
  • Share it with another Mama, caregiver, or educator who knows our kids deserve more than “just get the work done.”

We’re building learners who believe: “I can do it myself.”

Let’s work together to get our kids together.
